Great Start at BBC White City

We are off to a great start at BBC white City where we have been busy recladding the Iconic BBC Television Centre with over 4,000m2 of brick faced precast panels.  To date we have finished Plots B and C and have now started on the largest plot A with the beautiful Cotswold Buff bricks. The design has had it’s challanges with plot B being required to clad onto an existing structure which required special light weight concrete panels which we developed in-house. Plot A has some interesting panel shapes and sizes with the average panel being over 9m in length 3.5m high and weighing in at 10 tonnes each

Grants Precast awarded King’s Court – Covent Garden

Grants Precast have been awarded the highly prestigious brick faced precast to the new King’s Court development in the heart of London’s Covent Garden. The facades use high quality hand made bricks which have been expertly chosen to match the history and ambiance of the surrounding properties while creating a subtle air of distinction and character. The 100,000 square feet mixed-use scheme (including over 20,000 square feet of new space) will improve pedestrian flow around the estate by creating a new passageway connecting Long Acre and King Street. The development will create eight new retail units, two new restaurants and forty-five premium apartments centred around a new public courtyard.

St James Square – London

The project comprises the redevelopment of number 6 St James’s Square and 10-11 Babmaes Street to provide 112,000 sq ft of commercial offices, 13 residential units and a small art gallery. The new St James’s Square elevation of number 6 will be sympathetic to its neighbours and very much in keeping with the overall style of the square. It is being constructed using high quality Portland Stone on precast concrete panels specially designed to give a monolithic handset appearance. Grants Precast have manufactured the Portland stone and the Precast Panels at our new state of the art factories in Cadeby. It is the attention to detail which makes this high quality facade become the new bench-mark in stone on precast panels.

Natural Portland Stone Structural Precast Columns

Another first for the Grants Group – August 2012. We have started the manufacture of 5m high precast structural precast columns, which are clad in solid Portland Stone. The Portland Stone rings are placed into our specially designed moulds and the structural precast concrete is cast inside. We have separated the stone and concrete so that although the Portland Stone columns look solid the stone is purely aesthetic and the engineered reinforced precast concrete is doing all the work. Grants Precast have been selected to produce these columns for a prestigious project at De Vere Gardens in Kensington, central London for their attention to detail and masonry skills in precast concrete. These columns are designed and constructed by Grants and are believed to be the first ever of this type of construction.

Grants Precast At Eco Build 2012

Grants Precast is producing the precast concrete panels and columns for the Lafarge Eco House being displayed at this years Eco Build 2012 Exhibition at London’s Excel. The event runs from Tuesday 20th to Thursday 22nd March – so why not come and have a look. From a sustainable construction perspective, there is no “ideal” building. The characteristics of an energy-efficient home can vary according to the climate, the building’s size, and its function or spatial organization for example. Lafarge have developed 20 simple rules for sustainable construction, which will be put into practice at next years biggest and best Ecobuild, these rules look at passive design measures to reduce energy demand, active renewable energies and other aspects of sustainable construction, including: 1. Select a compact building shape to minimize envelope surface area. 2. Opt for a building orientation and openings to reduce loses and increase energy gains. 3. Use high thermal insulation to reduce energy demand for heating and cooling. 4. Avoid thermal bridges to reduce energy losses. 5. Ensure superior air tightness of the envelope to reduce energy losses. 6. Integrate exterior solar shading devices to avoid excessive solar gains. 7. Select reflective roofs or green roofs to […]
